Barbara MacKay

img-barbaraBarbara MacKay, a Senior Associate with LJS since 2004, specializes in facilitation processes, training, consulting, and interactive speaking. She has strong interpersonal communication skills and experience, allowing her to work skilfully with a wide variety of participant perspectives. With her energetic style and clear delivery, Barbara helps groups to problem-solve, to plan, and most importantly to make progress in often challenging and complex situations. She has a passion for working toward a more just world.

Barbara has almost 25 years work as professional facilitator and adult educator, socio-economic consultant, federal government program manager, and

religious education director. She has worked with all levels of government, corporate, non-profit, health and education sectors, tribal groups, large and small businesses, unions, and associations. In her passion to make facilitation skills a world-wide life-skill, she writes extensively on facilitation skills and developed a facilitator mentoring program for individuals of under-represented constituencies.

She is an Associate Facilitator and USA trainer with the International Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA); a Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF) and facilitator-assessor with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF); and a certified accelerated learning and OneSmartWorld© trainer. She is currently an adjunct professor with the University of Oregon, teaching their first required graduate level facilitation skills course. She has also served as an adjunct professor with Portland State University. She is trained in: Non-Violent Communication™ (NVC); Dr. De Bono’s thinking techniques; PATH graphic visioning process; Mind Mapping™; the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI); Organizational Journey (ICA); conciliation; “shifting from positions to interests”; conflict resolution; negotiation skills; anger management; risk communication; and curriculum development.

Barbara received a B. S. from McGill University, Canada and a M.S. in Resource Management from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Barbara is bilingual in English and French and studying Spanish. She currently lives in Tigard, Oregon, USA with her husband; their two adult children both live in Canada. Her preferred past-times are mediation, yoga, gardening and hiking.
